Meeting You Where You Are … To Take You Where You Are Meant to Be
New Reflections Counseling is currently an all-virtual mental health therapy practice. Telehealth sessions are conducted with a highly trained, licensed, and compassionate New Reflections therapist. While mental health counseling has traditionally been conducted in-person, the reality is that therapy is just as effective through virtual sessions, where eye contact and interpersonal engagement are maintained. With virtual therapy, you can begin working with a New Reflections counselor almost immediately, no matter your location in Virginia. Virtual therapy also eliminates any worries over traffic, mask wearing, or illnesses during the pandemic and cold and flu season. A patient portal is used to streamline the exchange of documents, records, and payments.
A special point of pride for New Reflections Counseling is its personal service. Initial patient contacts are made by phone and email, with replies coming directly from the therapist. Most appointments can be arranged within one to two weeks – there’s no long wait to get an appointment on the calendar. Finally, New Reflections Counseling takes pride in making the process of finding a suitable therapist as painless as possible. Upon first contact we welcome you to the practice, determine the best fit, and handle insurance and paperwork matters. Then during the first session, an assessment is conducted where a customized treatment plan is designed just for you. And we pledge to provide individualized, client-focused service centered on you as we listen thoughtfully to you, validate your concerns, and work with you to identify options to help you overcome the barriers to your personal growth and fulfillment.

Christy Damrath is a licensed clinical social worker and the owner and principal therapist of New Reflections Counseling, a private outpatient mental health practice focused on serving individual adult clients as well as couples and families. Christy is trained in and primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness Techniques, and uses these proven methodologies to help clients address concerns related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem and self-confidence, communication and relationship issues as well as other mental health diagnoses.
Christy prides herself on her ability to establish a meaningful rapport and an easy connection with her clients to help them to feel safe and to find hope. She’s a skilled listener, focusing intently on what clients share with her, asking purposeful questions, and posing follow-up questions for clarity. Past clients have marveled at her ability to recall the details they shared months ago, without referring to her notes, which highlights her attention to details. Her goal, always, is to encourage clients to thoughtfully consider their options in order to make healthy decisions for themselves.
Christy has a deep understanding of the issues her clients face and is able to assist with major life changes including job transitions, parenthood, work-life balance, marriages and the blending of families. Her own experiences have given her a deep appreciation for other people’s life stories, and a passion for helping clients to process their past in order to learn and improve their future selves. With Christy Damrath, you’re a person, not an appointment.

Successful mental health counseling requires a thoughtful, compassionate, and systematic approach. It’s essential that the client feels comfortable with and connected to the therapist, and that the therapist obtains a clear understanding of the client’s background, life issues, and immediate mental health concerns.
When you sign on as a New Reflections client, you can expect a warm welcome and a thorough assessment. We’ll make sure you feel comfortable, relaxed, and supported. You’ll be invited to tell us what brings you in, what issues you want to work on, and what results you seek. You can count on us to listen carefully and validate your experiences so you feel heard and understood.
After the assessment, we’ll move ahead with a schedule of regular sessions. Usually, these occur weekly or every other week, with sessions lasting 45 to 60 minutes. Every client is different, of course, but during our time together, as we build rapport, we’ll help you gain awareness, understand your mental health diagnosis, manage your emotions and redirect negative thoughts and self-judgment. We help many clients learn how to communicate more effectively, develop coping skills, and establish self-care routines. Our goal is to set you on a path toward contentment and fulfillment, and we look forward to celebrating your successes and achievements with you.
New Reflections Counseling currently accepts direct pay as well as the following health insurance plans: Anthem, Cigna, Open Path, Optima, and Optum (formerly United Healthcare). We are glad to assist you in determining whether your specific plan covers our services.
